Good News: Income Hit Record High, Poverty Hit Record Low

Here is a bit of good news for a change: according to a recent report for the U.S. Census Bureau, income hit a record high in 2019 and poverty hit a record low.

As reported in a recent issue of The Clayton Tribune, the U.S. Census Bureau’s report revealed the median household income rose 6.8 percent, reaching $68,703, while the poverty rate fell to a new low to 10.5 percent.

Among the factors contributing to the record high income is the increase of job openings from 2017 to 2018, which increased by almost 1 million and stayed strong throughout 2019. While job openings took a hit early on in the COVID-19 crisis, the article reports a solid rebound with 6.62 million openings.
