Through Forward Rabun, Rabun County Selected as GICH 2022 Community Cohort!
Thanks to the efforts of Rick Story, Director of Development – Forward Rabun, Barbara Anderson, Pat Steuck and Geanine Marlow of Rabun County Habitat for Humanity and Caroline Wallace, Executive Director – F.A.I.T.H., as well as the other members of the Rabun County GICH committee, Rabun County has been chosen as one of only five communities state-wide to be selected for the program.
“On behalf of the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH) program, I would like to congratulate you, as Rabun County has been selected as one of five communities that will make up the GICH 2022 community cohort! Over the next three years your community’s housing team will be provided important information, facilitation, and networking opportunities designed to help with the development of a locally driven housing plan. This plan will serve as a guide that both identifies the unique housing issues your community faces and provides strategies on how to address them. Being recognized as a GICH community is a highly sought-after designation and can provide important benefits to your local community. Congratulations and welcome to the GICH family of communities! We look forward to working with your community housing team and wish you the best of luck moving forward!” ~ Jermaine Durham, PhD, Assistant Professor of Housing & Community Development, Director of the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH), University of Georgia.
According to Story, “One of the main reasons we were selected is because we have a collaborative community partnership in place through Forward Rabun. That caught the attention of the GICH committee and sent a strong message that we are willing to come together and work together as a community.”
